Authenticity and art forgery: recent cases and legal implications

This article gives a short overview of several high-profile cases of art forgery that have recently occurred in different jurisdictions and concerned varying genres of art. The aspects of authenticity, authorship and attribution will be discussed as well as the legal implications that arise when an artwork’s authenticity is challenged. Lastly, also the role of the catalogue raisonné in authentication matters will briefly be discussed.
